Hero Army PFC Joseph Dwyer Defining Moment in Town of Babylon
Long Island’s Defining Moment: Painting Unveiled In Babylon Which Honors Long Island’s Heroes and Supports Our Veterans
History was recently made on Long Island as an inspiring painting, “Defining Moment,” was unveiled at the Suffolk County Legislative Offices for the first time. This piece of history will become part of Babylon’s history as Supervisor Steve Bellone introduced the painting and conducted the first public unveiling of the painting at Babylon Town Hall. This is the first stop of a tour in which the painting will be displayed at various locations throughout Long Island for public viewing. Plans are underway to donate the painting to the Pentagon to become part of America’s history and to honor our veterans and soldiers.
“Defining Moment” was inspired by the Pulitzer Prize photo seen throughout the world of PFC Joseph Dwyer (brother of Suffolk County Police Officer Brian Dwyer) saving an Iraqi child. Joseph Dwyer enlisted in the Army two days after September 11, 2001. He survived many battles in Iraq to return home with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). PTSD eventually took his life, however his heroic legacy will not be forgotten and is being used to raise awareness about PTSD. Lithographs of the paintings will be used to raise funds to support the mission of HeroArmyPFCJosephDwyer.com
