“OUT OF THE DARKNESS” A COLONY OF BAT FANS LINE UP FOR
“THE DARK KNIGHT” DVD RELEASE AT BLOCKBUSTER
If you were looking for an exciting “Bat” experience, there was no better place to be than at the Blockbuster® store located at 829 8th Avenue at West 51st Street in New York City from 10pm until midnight on Monday, December 8th. The summer’s highest grossing film finally arrived on DVD and a colony of “Bat” fans flew in for their chance to own a copy of the “The Dark Knight” starring Christian Bale, Maggie Gyllenhall, and the late Heath Ledger. “The Dark Knight” is currently the highest grossing movie of 2008 in North America and worldwide, and it is the second highest grossing movie of all time domestically.
The flagship Blockbuster store in midtown displayed the DVD and video beginning at 10:00 pm and remained open till 1:00 am on December 9th to accommodate the unprecedented customer fan demand for purchase and rental of the highly acclaimed action film. Sales and rental of the movie began one minute after midnight. In addition, there was an abundance of exciting surprises including a special appearance by “Dark Knight” Costume Characters and “Dark Knight” giveaways. Fans saw a “Bat Revenge Custom Designed Collector Car” equipped with a giant bat which was designed by the #1 tattooed Bat Fan, Batso. “To enhance the anticipated release of this new DVD, we planned an exciting evening of Bat fun and festivities,” explained Jack Mara, regional director of operations from Blockbuster. “It you were a ‘Dark Knight” fan, this was definitely the place you wanted to be,” he continued.
Christopher Nolan steps back into the director's chair for this high grossing sequel to “Batman Begins,” which finds the titular superhero coming face to face with his greatest nemesis - the chilling and dreaded Joker. Christian Bale returns to the role of Batman, Maggie Gyllenhaal takes over the role of Rachel Dawes, and Brokeback Mountain star Heath Ledger dons the ghoulishly gleeful Joker makeup in his last role before his untimely death.
Admission to this event was free and open to the public. Copies of “The Dark Knight” were available on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies lasted.
